On September 13, 2014 the Charity Series of Poker held their third event at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City.
The event was held the night before the annual Borgata Poker Open which is a $3,500 re-entry World Poker Tour that featured a $3 million guaranteed prize pool this year. The event drew some of the top players in the game including Will Failla, Mukul Pahuja, Jennifer Shahade, Steve Gross, Vinny Pahuja, Anthony Zinno, Dan Heimiller, Edina Pantichin, Loni Harwood, and Oscar-nominated actor James Woods. None of those big names would pick-up the trophy, that honor was reserved for poker pro Amanda Musumeci. She earned the top prize along with a generous $1,000 gift card from Pro Caliber Custom Poker Tables.
While everyone had a great time, the real winners were the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and Habitat for Humanity’s Atlantic County Chapter. They evenly split $7,638 between them to help out New Jersey residents in need.
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey is a member of Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization. They provide more than 40 million pounds of food annually to over 1000 non-profit programs including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, senior feeding programs, shelters, and after-school programs.
The Atlantic County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is the local branch of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. They strive to achieve this vision by using donated materials and labor to build new homes and repair existing ones. Then they help hard-working but low-paid families who donate 250+ hours of work on Habitat homes get mortgages on their new affordable homes.
